Training Facility

Located in Abilene, Kansas – The “Greyhound Capital” of America

The first type of greyhound races were called coursing. Kansas was the site of the first official organized greyhound race in this country. The first coursing meet was held near Great Bend in 1886.

In later years, racing on special greyhound tracks developed as we know it today. In the early days, dogs chased after live jackrabbits. In the 1920s, an artificial lure was developed for the dogs to chase, as is used for races today.

The rural community of Abilene, Kansas (population 6,468) is considered the original “home” of greyhound racing. The history of greyhound racing and leaders of the industry have been honored since 1973 at the Greyhound Hall of Fame and attracts approximately 30,000 visitors a year from all over the world to this small community. Over 20 greyhound farms are located in this area. The breed registry is also maintained by the National Greyhound Association, whose offices are located nearby. The NGA hosts two greyhound meets a year where greyhound breeders and prospective owners gather to watch their young racers exhibit their talents and are auctioned to race at tracks across the country.

Do you ever sell greyhound pups that you will not race? I own a grey that is retired but he is getting up in age. I love the breed and wish to get a young pup but they are really hard to find. Thank for your time and consideration in this matter. My e-mail is mjbrok@gmail.com
